First, our start/finish will be held at the new football stadium on the UWG campus with easy access to showers and tons of convenient parking.

Second, the 25 mile course has been re-routed so it no long climbs up Bonner Goldmine hill but goes around it.

Third, the Re/MAX hot air balloon will be giving rides (weather permitting) to participants.

Fourth, Georgia Senator Bill Hamrick is our honorary starter AND will be riding with us. He was on the Senate Safety Committee and pushed to release, modify, and pass the improved HB101 and is a huge cycling fan. Here is your chance to "Cycle with the Senator" and give this guy a huge THANK YOU for supporting cycling!

Fifth - take advantage of our 12 and under Youth Rate.

Also, while we are past the mail-in deadline, online registration has been extended until Wednesday May 18th with the $5 savings still in effect until midnight Sunday May 15. T-shirts are no longer guaranteed but will be distributed if available. Proceeds benefit the Carrollton Greenbelt - a bicycle/pedestrian facility that will circle Carrollton.

Boy Scout Troop 138 is geared up and ready to go, the community is excited to have you in town, and we look forward to riding with you next week.

If you'd like to make a bicycle weekend out of it, please ride with the Roopville Ramble crowd on Saturday - proceeds benefit Camp Sunshine. Roopville is only 15 minutes outside of Carrollton.

Its going to be beautiful weekend to be on a bicycle!!

The AV200 200 begins on the beautiful Emory University campus in Atlanta and winds through scenic Georgia countryside to arrive at Camp Rock Eagle in the Oconee National Forest. Along the way you will have the opportunity to make new friends and see parts of Georgia in ways that you have never seen it before... from a bike! And at the same time you will be raising much needed money for Emory Vaccine Center, which is at the forefront of AIDS vaccine research.

Completing back-to-back centuries (200 miles) is a very rewarding endeavor. Building public awareness for HIV/AIDS is challenging. Raising money for an AIDS Vaccine is difficult. And making the commitment to accept these challenges is a serious one.

The decision, the commitment, the training, the sweat, the pain, the accomplishment of your impossible dream, the knowledge that YOU have made a significant contribution through your individual efforts that make a big difference in the world is a sense of great exhilaration that have made grown people weep with joy at the end of the ride. What you will have accomplished will be felt around the world!

The registration fee is $100 but will be discounted $25 if a team of five or more registers. The fee includes two t-shirts, accommodations Saturday night and all meals/drinks for the weekend, including a post ride dinner/ceremony on the campus of Emory University. The fundraising minimum is a low $500. There hasn't been a club meeting in a while. If no one objects, I'll proceed with a plan to have another bike event for April 9th.
Right now I am thinking of returning to metric format. Keeping rest stops simple. I'd prefer to have a pasta meal at the end, I'd be glad to stay and cook. Also perhaps cut the fee to $20.
Two
categories to choose from: "Full On Aero" or "Eddy Merkx Style"!
What's this? Full On Aero is just like it sounds-bring all the aero stuff
you have! If you don't have a time trial bike, don't worry. You'll be in
the Eddy Merkx Style division. This means road bike and no clip-ons, no
aero wheels, etc....straight up.
If you can't make the race, you can "ghost ride" the event. Or, if you
don't want to race, you can just ride the course. All money raised will be
donated to the Columbiana Middle School Special Education Department. So,
don't be stingy!
Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level, competitive desire or
discipline! Just bring a bike!
I'm looking for donations to be given out as door prizes, so please contact
me if you'd like to donate. No cash prizes to be given to the
winners...only pride and a medal to the state champions. I intend to have
multiple door prizes to give out, so regardless if you're a world TT
champion or just a novice, you have an equal chance of winning something!
I plan on the real winners being the students in the Special Education
programs. I also intend on making this an annual event, with next year's
event being a bit earlier in the season.
Any club, bike shop, organization, etc that would like to be involved is
more than welcome. Perry said something about doing a 65 mile mountain bike ride sometime. Here is a proposed route inspired by by Race Across the Sky. We can't simulate riding at 10,000 to 12,000 feet but this would be a pretty good challenge for some of us (me). The Bing map doesn't include 2 miles along the Sylaward Trail to get us back to the start. When you include that, it should be pretty close to 65 miles.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00891837431169314093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19459806.post-65297089573034750482010-04-20T21:54:00.000-05:002010-04-20T21:54:39.435-05:00West Georgia Flyers CenturyThe 2010 Blazing Saddles Century is our club's fourth annual century event. Last year was another success thanks to all the new and returning riders and sponsors---but of course we hope to make this year even better! Due to construction at the high school last year, we changed the venue for the start location, which resulted in some exciting new route changes. While we were able to keep them largely the same as in previous years, we were able to take advantage of some new freshly-paved roads along with some slight re-routes which kept the riders out of town and on the scenic backroads we all love best. As usual we will have SAG support, so if you find you've bitten off more than you can chew you can hitch a ride back to the start or the next rest stop, whichever you need.Mehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00891837431169314093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19459806.post-72778560916258213762010-04-19T23:07:00.001-05:002010-04-20T08:33:22.739-05:00Super Sports in Sylacauga

Lots of progress made. I have the ice cream oked. We have t shirts. We have some premes. We have hot dogs. Wade is ready to use the grill. We have helpers. I have the port a pottys lined up. Volunteers are ready. Just a few things left to get set. How about having a ride saturday morning the 20th to ride a portion of our route, and have just a minute before the ride begins to update everyone on the century?
TPMehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00891837431169314093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19459806.post-40393573416321661632010-02-26T16:43:00.002-06:002010-03-01T23:54:35.884-06:00Up the Creek Without a Pedal Century RideForwarded to COGS membership
Ride Information
One of Northwest Georgia's must do rides. The ride consists of options
of 30, 45, 62, and 100 miles, all on scenic rural roads with very
little traffic.
The 30 and 45-mile routes are mostly flat to gently rolling, with one
moderate climb.
The century route takes both 100-milers and 62-milers to Villanow at
about mile 30, where the century riders will do a loop that returns
them to Villanow. The route contains a couple of challenging hills,
but no mountains.
All options are fully sagged with SAG stops located about every 15
miles. All routes return to the starting point at the mall where you
can enjoy a postride Chick-Fil-A sandwich (included in registration
fee).
Last sweep of the course is at 5:00.
Right now I have a lot of folks willing to pitch in. I have a few things left to do but I have requested the ice cream and have t-shirts ordered. The ride is posted on major sites and I have emailed all the clubs round and about. Civitans has got the insurance for the event. Over the next week I'll get the forms printed for registering the day of the event. I'll get down to Fayetteville Water to get permission to put the rest stop on McGowan's Ferry. They always say yes. And I'll see the folks at Big Daddy's Chevron. We have permission to use the site in Weogufka for a rest stop. The Active site is up and running for online registration. The forms for pre-registration are getting a lot of views online. If anyone already has a gift certificate either in hand or promised by any of the local restaurants, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll ask for a pre-event get together a week or so before the event. Until then, stay in touch.
Tim
PS. We have a new presenting sponsor and a new date for 2010! We wish to thank Wells Fargo Advisors for supporting our event and hope you will mark your calendar for Sunday, April 18 and plan to join us in Piedmont, Alabama!

We hope you will plan to make a weekend of it in 2010. We will again have the complimentary Animal Medical Center rooftop dinner for Cheaha riders and family/friends on Friday evening. Saturday will again feature the Noble Street Festival--a downtown Anniston family festival that attracts more than 5,000 attendees with great food in the Red Diamond Restaurant Tour, multiple activities for children of all ages in the McWane KidZone, the Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash running race, and the Bike pARTs sculpture competition. Add live music and the nationally recognized and action packed Sunny King Criterium pro and amateur bike races on downtown streets and you have a festival not to be missed. This family event has been selected a Top 10 Event in Alabama by the state's Tourism Bureau and has been featured in numerous magazines and publications, including Southern Living, Bicycling, and Velo News.

The Cheaha Crew wishes you a Merry Christmas and tailwinds in the New Year and we hope you will make our weekend a part of your ride calendar in 2010!
I am asking for many of you to take a look at the web page and pick a job you would like to do. I may email some of you personally to ask you do have a specific job. And actually, the more folks the merrier. If I can, I'd love to pair Civitan folks with COGS folks wherever we can. I enjoy these events. The folks are always nice.
Thanks,
Tim PresleyMehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00891837431169314093noreply@blogger.com
