Saturday Cycling Oct. 14: Birmingham, Alabama

Kathy Oliver sent me this information about a Century ride this Saturday…

City of Hoover 2006 Wheelin’ & Healin’ Cycling Challenge Benefiting Kid One Transport

Be a part of one of the Largest Charity Bike Rides in the Southeast!

The City of Hoover
presents the 2006 Wheelin’ & Healin’ Cycling Challenge on Saturday, October 14th, 2006 at 7:00 a.m.; this will be the fourth year for the bike ride.

Routes for the 2006 Wheelin’ & Healin’ Cycling Challenge promise to satisfy your every cycling desire. Each route offers smooth roads, varied topography, beautiful scenery and tons of support - both SAG and mechanical. Situated approximately .5 miles from the finish line, Petelos Peak, a short (.2 mile) but fairly steep incline (+/- 14%) will “CHALLENGE” riders as they near the end of their journey. With respect to gearing, rear cassettes equipped with either a 25 or 27 tooth rear cog should be adequate for any climb on any of these routes.

PICK FROM 4 ROUTES-
Four different routes will be offered this year – 25, 60, 80 and 100 miles. The 25 and 60 mile routes are brand new and aside from Petelos Peak
, feature relatively flat to rolling topography. Road surfaces on the 25 and 60 are very good. Returning riders will recognize and hopefully enjoy the same, epic 80 and 100 mile routes from 2005; both of which feature an up close and personal look at the Cahaba River Wildlife Management area. The road surface through this area is not ideal but the ascents, descents and rolling terrain make for a wonderful cycling experience. The 100 mile route also features a brief trip through scenic campus of the University of Montevallo. There will be a 9 hour time limit on the full century.

Are you up for the CHALLENGE? Mark your calendars now and come ride for Kid One
